The City Surf Series was launched in 2017 and was a resounding success. The Series aims to provide local South African surfers with the opportunity to compete on a regular basis and compete locally in QS events without the expense of travelling overseas. Over R1 Million will be up for grabs over the course of 6 events, dubbed the Race to Nelson Mandela Bay.
With the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in mind, the goal will be to provide our local athletes with the best opportunities to compete and go for gold.
The City Surf Series is unique in that it features both local and international talent, while combing Men, Women and Youth surfing competitions at each event. This year will also see the inclusion of Longboard and Stand Up Paddle Surfing (SUP) competitions, creating a truly spectacular one-of-a-kind surfing festival.
All events will be giving back to the community and environment by incorporating CSI Learn to Surf Initiatives as well as Community Clean-the-Beach programmes, sponsored by Tuffy Plastics. In the 2017 edition of the City Surf Series, over 300 previously disadvantaged kids across the 5 events were taught to surf.
