The City Surf Series was launched in 2017 and was a resounding success. The CSS aims to provide a platform for local South African surfers with the opportunity to compete on a regular basis and earn valuable international WSL Qualifying Series points without the expense of travelling overseas.
In 2018 over R1 Million was up for grabs over the course of 6 events.
With the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in mind, the goal will be to provide our local athletes with the best opportunities to compete and go for gold.
The City Surf Series is unique in that it features both local and international talent, while combining Men, Women and Youth surfing competitions at each event. We also include local Longboard divisions and Stand Up Paddle (SUP) races at select events, creating a truly spectacular one-of-a-kind surfing festival.
All events will be giving back to the community and environment by incorporating CSI Learn to Surf Initiatives as well as Community based Clean-the-Beach programmes. In 2018, over 300 previously disadvantaged kids across the 6 events were taught to surf.
In 2019 we start phase 1 of the “ Sustainable Surf Series” with an educational activation area; whereby our focus will be on educating members of the public, local schools and underprivileged youth about single-use plastics and plastic pollution. Each event will have a dedicated recycling station and competitors and event staff will be given reusable bottles to minimise our plastic waste.
