CASE STUDIES

Among the projects that Accelerate is currently involved in or have just completed, are:

RWC 2015/19 Bid

We recently assisted the SA Rugby Union (SARU) with its bid to the International Rugby Board (IRB) to become the host of either the 2015 or the 2019 Rugby World Cup tournament. Despite the fact that SA Rugby submitted a highly impressive bid – acknowledged as such by the IRB Chairman – other factors resulted in SARU losing out narrowly to England (2015) and Japan (2019).

Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

Accelerate Sport, via its subsidiary Access Facilities & Leisure Management Pty Limited, has been contracted to manage and administer the impressive new multi-purpose stadium in Port Elizabeth, on an ongoing basis. It is the intention of our company, on behalf of the stadium owner, the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, to ensure that this stadium is utilized to its full potential going forward. Its first major international event was a rugby match in June 2009, between the touring British & Irish Lions and the new rugby franchise, known as the Southern Kings. That was followed by a match in the annual Vodacom Challenge competition, between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Commercial Rights of British & Irish Lions

Accelerate was involved in the British & Irish Lions tour, with the implementation and management of the commercial rights programme. This involved a full time presence with the team, for the duration of their seven week tour of SA, to ensure that all the sponsors’/suppliers’ commercial rights were protected and exploited.

Rugby Town 2007

A highly successful project was the creation and operation of Rugby World Cup 2007’s single-largest “fan park”, known as Rugby Town, which was situated at the Trocadero in Paris (close to the Eiffel Tower), and which attracted in excess of half a million fans during the tournament. The success of this project stands Accelerate in good stead to launch significant bids to provide such facilities for future major international events.

FIFA – 2010 Soccer World Cup

Songezo Nayo has been seconded to the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee South Africa, as the Venue Manager for Soccer City.
