The 2018 City Surf Series Champions in both the QS and JQS Mens and Womens divisions receive their one of a kind NIXON timepieces.
After a successful City Surf Series, with an inaugural Town Classic event and another 1000 valuable QS points added to the WSL Africa calendar in 2018 – Nixon jumped on board to get involved and show their support for South Africa’s talented professional surfers.
With R1.135million up for grabs when competing in the 6 part City Surf Series, as well as the much needed WSL (World Surf League) Qualifying Series points that are awarded at each event – the 2018 edition was a hotly contested affair with South Africans hoping to make their mark on the WSL QS ratings.
By the time the siren went for the final CSS event on the 2018 calendar, South African surfing fans were able to see 8 Saffa’s in the top 50 on the WSL QS rankings leading up to the first QS10000 of the year held on the North Coast of KZN. This milestone shows how important it is to host internationally ranked WSL QS events along the South African Coastline.
Michael February (Cape Town) claims that if it wasn’t for the 2017 CSS he would not have gained the confidence and momentum to achieve 2 big results at QS10000 events which helped him qualify for the illustrious WSL Championship Tour (CT) in 2018 and by doing so becoming the first South African of colour to achieve this. Joining CT veteran Jordy Smith to make up the Mens Top 34 in the world.
“Nixon South Africa have come on board with the City Surf Series to provide the QS and JQS Men and Women’s Series winners, those leading the Skullcandy Leaderboard after the VW SA Open of Surfing pres. by Hurley, with a personally engraved Nixon timepiece. The men will receive the Nixon Diplomatic, the Women will receive the Nixon Ceramic Timekeeper. These have been personally engraved overseas and delivered to the surfers.
Nixon have proven time and again to be the watch of choice for surfers and these prizes go towards the surfers who have shown, over the course of the City Surf Series that they have the consistency to get the results time and time again and end the City Surf Series with the most points!”
Steven Adshade, distributor of Nixon watches in South Africa helped in arranging these one of a kind timepieces for the 2018 CSS champions – “Nixon is stoked to partner with the City Surf Series. We have so much local talent and hope the series can provide a spring board to get our next group of surfers on the elite WSL Championship Tour and our next world champions!”
The 2018 CSS Men’s Champion and current SA Team Member Adin Masencamp (Strand, Cape Town), “I am really happy to have won the City Surf Series and topped the Skull Candy Leaderboard, it was one of my goals from the beginning of the year so I am happy to achieve that goal.
The City Surf Series has been the reason I have qualified for the QS10000 events and I’m currently sitting top 75 on the WSL QS Rankings, so a huge thank you goes to the City Surf Series and all the other sponsors that helped put this incredible series together!
These events have given South African surfers the chance to build up enough points to get into the higher rated events without traveling the globe in search of points to gain entry into those events and it is a lot easier financially especially for us South African surfers.”
2018 CSS Women’s Champion and current SA Team Member Nicole Pallet (Durban, KZN) said, “I am beyond stoked! It is such a cool feeling to take out the 2018 CSS and to top it off with such a sick Nixon engraved watch is amazing! Thanks to everyone involved.”
2018 CSS Junior Men’s Champion and current SA Junior Team Member Luke Slijpen (Llandudno, Cape Town) said, “I’m extremely stoked to have won the CSS in the Junior Men’s division. Thanks to you guys for putting on really great events and having them at cool locations, amazing vibes on the beach which just amps me up so much. Thanks to Nixon for the amazing prize – so stoked!”
